The wizard and magician’s job is largely to break that belief that something is impossible. This was one of Steve Jobs’ secrets: his famous “reality distortion field,” was largely comprised of a belief that things were possible, even when others didn’t…and then expecting them to live up to his beliefs.

How strong are your beliefs? Especially those about what is possible for you? Be honest…is doing that “impossible” think really impossible…or just uncomfortable?

Stories are the key to great presentations–but only if they are great stories. A great story weaves it’s spell over an audience, and can often help them change their beliefs, if that’s what is required within the story to save the hero. But what makes a great story? Two things: Great characters, and great action arising from conflict. Find the conflict, and you’re sure to hold your audience’s interest.

It is human nature to resist change–often irrationally. As you set out to change the world, you will meet resistance. Be ready for it. Like Gandhi…be prepared to be ignore, hated and laughed at. If you’re sure of yourself and your purpose–you, too, can win.

It is experience that changes us…but we are all different people, and will be affected differently by different experiences. If you want to know the best experience to help a partciular persoin to change themselves…the more you know about that person before you create the experience, the greater your chance of success.

Here’s an exercise for you: Pick something you absolutely know...

Here’s an exercise for you: Pick something you absolutely know to be true. Then consider all the reasons you “know” that thing. How many of them are “first hand” knowledge, from your own senses and experimentation? Can you “prove” the thing you know in at least two or three different ways? Can you disprove the thing you set out to prove? If you could disprove it, how would you do that?

You may find that you’ve proved the thing you were certain you knew to begin with…or not. Either way, you’ll have a much deeper understanding of that thing and the truth–or falsehood–surrounding it. You’ve taken an important step down the Wizard’s Path.

Real knowledge comes from experience. Experience is the thing...

Real knowledge comes from experience. Experience is the thing that forms us…our character, our emotions, our beliefs. If you want to change someone’s world (including your own) create an experience for them. Don’t just explain why or how they need to change–create an experience that will make them want to change.

Here are the Wizard Venture, we’ve been creating all kinds of experiences–for corporate and casino audiences, for personal growth groups, and for the students at our magic school.

We all have something we want to change. We want our teams to work together better than they do. We want to sell more of our products, to make our families happier. What do you want to change?
