In the real world, true wizards probably don’t look like magicians, or like the traditional depictions in art and in the movies. They’re more likely to look like artists (Leonardo), teachers (Feynman), directors (Spielberg) or entrepreneurs (Jobs). But the underlying principles for achieving what others cannot, remain the same.

Does your business–or your personal life–need some change? Change is tough, but we can help. Our speakers and trainers have been creating real magic for a long time…and I’m sure we can help you, too.

A brief demonstration of just how difficult it can be to escape from making false assumptions. True wizards must question everything, if you wish to discover truth. So…don’t be a chump…let’s all return to truth!

A third of our three clips on rules of three. This might be the simplest: All great stories, experiences, etc. have three parts: a beginning, and middle and an end. But what makes a good beginning, a magnificent middle, or an engaging ending?

So…in this holiday season, what have you done to help your team members feel they are really “part of the family.” The best team isn’t always made up of the “superstar” players…but rather, those who really value the mission–and sense of belonging–your organization provides.

Good deeds are good business!

The second “rule of three” for effective communication: “Tell ‘em what you’re going to tell 'em. Then tell 'em. Then tell 'em what you told 'em.”

Sounds simple…and it is. But first you have to be clear, in your own mind, about exactly how to sum up what you’re speaking about. All too often, we’re just a bit fuzzy about that. The “general idea” probably isn’t good enough.

Listening is one of the metaskills that can be most difficult to develop–but without it, we fail to connect, fail to communicate and often fail to persuade.

When you want to connect, to persuade, to influence…one of your greatest strengths is the ability to really listen. But it takes practice. Which is why active listening is one of the areas we concentrate on in our presentations workshops.

I love it when you systematize something people generally think of as only available through a lucky surge of inspiration. The wizard principle of examining a situation from many different points of view does that–and this “Six Hats” method of doing that provides an easy way of doing just that. Try it out at your next meeting or brainstorming session.

Our society today suffers from an extreme failure to understand and communicate with one another. Wishing won’t make it go away. But taking an active role in changing yourself, your own ability to understand those not like you–can help solve the problem. Not only that–it might just give you the power to influence your own attitudes and those of “the opposition,” whoever they might be. Mirroring is a valuable tool in the arsenal of the would-be influencer.

You can learn to be a pretender to power–a performing magician–just by watching teenagers revealing how their tricks are done on YouTube. But if you want real power–the power to change yourself and the world around you in more profound ways than just getting applause when you perform–that takes deeper thought, deeper committment, deeper learning. This is partly why the word “wizard” comes from the same root as “wise.” Wizards have real wisdom–and the ability to put that wizdom to work for transformation.

Do you have what it takes to become a true wizard? Do you want those you work with to achieve that kind of power? We can help.

I made this a couple of years ago…but the principle still holds today in the era of online meetings and events. Only now, a “live” audience might not be the one in the room with you. Part of the trick to mastering online presentation is still the art of listening. There’s a dilemma here, though: It’s important when presenting online to present to the camera as though looking into the eyes of your audience…but when we do that, it’s difficult to actually look at the array of faces confronting you.

There are both technial solutions and human solutions to this problem, and we can lead you to them with our special “presenting online” workshops. Get in touch with me at tobias@wizardventure.com in order to learn more!

Before embarking on any enterprise, it pays to take the time to figure out just why you are taking it on. This is doubly so when the enterprise is a particular presentation you are creating and delivering…but think back to the last time you gave a talk…and see if you can remember knowing precisely what you wanted from it as a result.

Once you’ve chosen such a purpose and worked to clarify it–and then commit yourself fully to achieving that purpose–you’ll be amazed at how much easier your job of creating and delivering that talk will be!

Next time you find yourself blaming others for whatever unhappy situation you may be experiencing–stop. Consider that if you were to take personal responsibility for whatever you wish to blame those others for–you might also be accepting power–or self empowerment. Blaming others is giving away your personal power. A sure way NOT to create the life you’ve dreamed of!

It’s true…power and responsibility go hand-in-hand. Which comes first, though? I’m sure it works both ways. When handed power (i.e. being promoted to an executive position), you’re also taking on responsibility. But if you want to become more powerful, volunteering to take on the responsibility is probably your best way forward.

The same goes for voluteering to speak at your organization’s events. Speaking IS leading, if you’re good at it. That’s why our primary offerings at The Wizard Venture are all speaker training events.

That which appears to be a problem from one angle, may well look...

That which appears to be a problem from one angle, may well look like a huge opportunity from another. “Oh, my business is dead during the pandemic,” because you’re used to making a living appearing in front of live audiences, becomes, “through the magic of Zoom, and people being stuck at home…I can reach an audience that’s 100x larger than what I was used to!”

Learn to see your world, and especially those “troubling situations” you encounter, from as many different perspecitves as possible. A different perspective might just be looking at a physical object from a different direction…when was the last time you looked at your car from underneath? It might also be looking from someone else’s point of view–the business who learns to see things from their customers’ points of view has a huge advantage over the one who can only see things from their own. Still another way to look at things from a different point of view would be to use your imagination to relocate in time–”what will this look like when I look back on it next year?”

Shifting perspectives is one of the wizard’s great secrets. See what use you can put it to in your life!

It’s been an uncomfortable year for many of us. Just going out your fiont door can be a bit scary. The question here is, what have you learned? How have you done, shifting gears to this new normal? If you’ve been struggling–maybe it’s time to change your attitude.

For some a crisis is just a crisis. But for others, every crisis presents an opportunity. What new opportunities have you discovered as we’ve gone through the multiple crisises of 2020? If your answer is “none,” perhaps it would help you to sit down and consider that for a few minutes.

We live in a world where the pace of change is only going to increase. Some will thrive, and others fall by the wayside. I hope you’ll be one to thrive–it can all come down to your attitude!
