Welcome to Creating Magic - Wizards' Ways
Welcome to my new blog! I'll be writing here about things I've learned from the various wizards I have known and worked with.
For our purposes here, "Wizard" covers a lot of ground. For 20 years now, I've been working with some extremely creative magicians who regularly push the boundaries of what magical performance art can be. Many of the items I write about will be things I've learned from working with them. I was also trained as a performer, and have come to believe that much of what one has to learn in order to portray characters who are larger than life, and to put on the glamour of charisma in a performing arts situation can also be applied to everyday lives in order to make each one of us more effective human beings.
However, the real wizards in our world are not generally magicians. They are those who have managed to create a disproportional amount of change in the world - people like Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Mohandas Gandhi, and in today's world, the activist playwright Eve Ensler and the late Steve Jobs. All of these folks had things in common which allowed them to, as Jobs put it, "make a dent in the world," in ways that affect and help everyone.
The way of the wizard is an exciting one - I hope you'll join me on the path!
Magically yours,
Tobias Beckwith
